Created in Tucson, Arizona in 2022, the CheckMate™ is the brainchild of Dave Clifford, a backflow tester & repair technician, and Mark Mitchell, a product engineer.
The CheckMate™ helps you replace check valve seats on the Watts 009 series backflow faster and more effectively than doing it by hand.
After looking (unsuccessfully) for an easier and faster way to assemble and disassemble check valve seats, Dave and Mark decided to invent their own tool - and the CheckMate system was born!
Replacing Watts 009 series check valve seats with the CheckMate™ couldn’t be easier. Our CheckMate™ 1500 model fits 1 1/4” and 1 1/2” check valves, and our CheckMate™ 2000 model fits 2” check valves. Both models can be purchased in our shop.

How to Use the CheckMate™
To remove the seat from an old Watts 009 series check using the CheckMate™:
Place the flat end of the seat against the friction plate that comes with your CheckMate™.
Cover the spring retainer with the CheckMate™ canister, pushing the seat against the spring retainer.
Then with with equal and opposing force turn the friction plate in the “opening” direction. “Open” and “Close” are indicated with arrows on the CheckMate™ canister.
The check seat will easily separate from the spring retainer.
To assemble a Watts 009 series check using the CheckMate™:
Insert the spring retainer into the CheckMate™ canister, then add the spring, the disc, and the check seat.
Press the CheckMate™ friction plate against the check seat.
Holding the CheckMate™ canister and the friction plate in opposite hands, press the check seat into the spring retainer.
With opposing force, turn the canister in the “closing” direction to line up the locking lugs.
With a quick snap, the check is assembled!

What Does the CheckMate™ System Include?
Each CheckMate™ system includes two individual components: the CheckMate™ canister and the friction plate.
The CheckMate™ canister houses the complete check module, protecting technicians from brittle and broken spring retainers while also adding a comfortable ergonomic grip.
The friction plate is held in the other hand or placed on a sturdy surface to apply pressure to the check seat while stabilizing the CheckMate™ canister to more easily and safely assemble and disassemble Watts 009 check seats.
BONUS: A black drawstring carrying case is also included with each CheckMate™ system that you purchase. You’ll never need to wonder which box you left the tool in, and the canister and friction plate can always be stored in the same easily-accessible bag.
